Introduction
The Standards Committee is a sub-committee of the Pharmacy Council and was established under Section II of the First Schedule of the Pharmacy Act 1966.
Role Of The Committee
- To review and make recommendations to the Pharmacy Council regarding the standards for the practice of pharmacy in Jamaica.
- To review and make recommendations to the Pharmacy Council regarding disciplinary actions for identified breaches.
- To develop and review strategies to encourage compliance with the laws of pharmacy.
Composition
The Committee is constituted as follows:
- Chairman of the Council (ex-officio)
- Committee Chair – Council Member
- Two (2) members of the Council
- Registrar of the Council
- Three (3) co-opted members
- Two Pharmacy Inspectors
Quorum
The quorum of the Standards Committee shall be fifty percent (50%) of membership plus one.
Scope Of Work
- Reviewing inspection reports
- Developing standards of practise to meet changing needs
- Organising meetings and seminars with stakeholders to assist in policy development
- Reviewing the Laws and Regulations for amendments and make recommendations
- Developing policies relating to various standards issues
- Ensuring continued training of Pharmacy Inspectors
- Collaborating with the professional organization to facilitate the growth of the profession.
Confidentialy
Proceedings of all meetings are confidential.
Reporting
The Chairman of the List Committee informs the Pharmacy Council of its discussions and recommendations, through a written report.
Our Role
- Review cases of breaches of the Pharmacy Laws at disciplinary hearings.
- Liaise with the Attorney General’s chambers.
- Interface with the Office of the Director of Public Prosecution.
- Investigate any other matter as decided by the Pharmacy Council.
Scope Of Word
- Conduct disciplinary procedures related to breaches of the Pharmacy Laws
- Review matters submitted by the Registration Appeal Tribunal.
- Execute the disciplinary process as per the practical guidelines for making decisions.
